MOOG CC springs and the V6 SHO Taurus
-----
During a recent suspension overhaul on my '89 SHO Taurus, I found myself dealing with a lot of part numbers,
and a lot of confusion. THIS is the final say in the MOOG CC spring fiasco.
-----
The MOOG CC (cargo coil) springs are designed as an improved factory replacement coil spring for regular Taurus'. They are progressive rate (whereas stock is linear) and are much stiffer overall. Many auto chains will not find the correct Moog coils if they search by application simply because Moog (for whatever reason) does not recommend the use of the Moog CC springs on the SHO Taurus.
You MUST search by PART NUMBER.
-----
- Part Numbers -
Lets look at the part numbers first. I will provide both the MOOG and NAPA numbers. As you can order the same coils, as MOOGs from some sources or through NAPA, but with NAPA part numbers.
MOOG:
Gen I: Front
CC862 Rear
CC839
Gen II: Front CC858
Rear CC859
NAPA:
Gen I: Front NCP2775235
Rear NCP2775216
Gen II: Front NCP2775236
Rear
NCP2775318
There are Gen 1 ('89-'92) and Gen 2 ('93-'95) specific Moog coils. You can, however, put Gen 2 specific coils on your Gen 1, or just the opposite, Gen 1 coils on your Gen 2.

The ride heights and spring rates change when going from Gen 1 coils to Gen 2 coils. However, front MOOG coils no matter the part #, right out if the box will ride VERY high. Because of this, I chose to cut one coil off the front springs. A few others have cut one and a half with great results. I chose to stick with a stock style strut (monroe sensatracs) so cutting more than one coil was out of the question.
